Good sources for purchasing online?

When local shops and bookstores do not have that which one seeks, then are there any reliable sources folks can recommend for ordering online and having the purchased items mailed?

A friend tells me "Descendants of Darkness" by Yoko Matsushita is worth reading, the first volume of which is "Two on Opposite Sides of the River" but local stores do not appear to carry this line.

Graphic Novel for girls...

I have a niece who's about 11 years old and I'd like to introduce her to graphic novels, assuming she isn't into them already. My brother's family is a bit conservative, so no hint of sexuality or vampires, please. My first thought was something along the lines of Gaiman's Stardust, until I remembered the sex reference. ... more stuff i've recently read

Hello, all ...

I've recently read a few more works, some of which resonated with me, some of which didn't so much:

1. Pride of Baghdad -- yes, I liked this a lot! My only complaint was that it was far too short :-( I want to read more Vaughan!

2. Alias (volume 1) -- I think I like this, though I could do without the superhero stuff. The main characters' story is, I think, rich enough without having to introduce the what seems to be requisite suspensions of belief. I'm not trying to be too harsh, though -- I think that I will at least continue to explore this series, as the capes / tights thing was understated enough to let the more human stories shine through.

3. The Exterminators (volumes 1 and 2) -- now this is more my cup o'tea! True, it's a bit icky, and it definitely cast a peculiar pall on my day for a few hours, but I plan on continuing with this one. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Y: The Last Man or Global Frequency (two of my absolute favorites), but I _did_ enjoy it.

4. Rising Stars (volume 1) -- I was looking forward to this, as I really liked Midnight Nation, but i'm not going to continue with this one. The epic battle between the forces of good and evil, as well as the mutant-X-men thing, have been done to _death_. Midnight Nation was more about one person (read: one normal, mortal, easy to identify with person) being put in a situation where he had to come to grips with his _personal_ demons, as well as the guide who would help him do it, and that I really liked. Rising Stars, though -- I liked it in the beginning, but the introduction of superpowers and this overblown, grandiose, looming epic battle really turned me off.

So, Alias i'll continue to keep up with (as long as the superhero thing doesn't get any bigger in the story -- hopefully it will diminish). While Exterminators is good (and I plan on keeping up with it, definitely), my favorites are still Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina and Global Frequency, and i'd _love_ to hear more about similar stuff to those.

... some thoughts on stuff i've been reading

Hello, all ...

I'm new to the graphic novel scene (i've adored Sandman for years, but never explored beyond that until recently). My tastes run more towards the human-centric, psychological stories, with normal people as the main characters. I'm not personally into the whole capes & tights thing at all, so I tend to stay away from those. I can appreciate a light touch of science fiction or the supernatural, but any more than that and I start to lose interest.

Anyway, what i've read lately:

1. Global Frequency -- I _love_ this stuff! Warren Ellis is an individual of similar tastes to myself, definitely.

2. Hellboy -- not my thing (too supernatural, way too much religious allegory for me). I read the first 2 volumes and basically am not interested in reading any more.

3. Watchmen -- I didn't think I would like it, but I ended up liking it quite a lot, despite the propensity of capes and costumes.

4. Girls -- i've heard so many good things about this series, but after reading the first 2 volumes, I don't think it's for me ... it seems really hung up on furthering various stereotypes about men / women, sex and small town America, and every time the story started to get interesting, more stereotypes would rear their ugly heads ...

5. Y: The Last Man -- i've read the first 9 volumes in this series, so I like it quite a lot. As "Girls" seemed (to me) to rejoice in stereotypes, this series seems to be about breaking them (evidenced by the fact that Yorick _didn't_ want to take advantage of his situation, even when presented with many opportunities to, as well as Hero's victory in conquering her brainwashing, not to mention turning the whole "the world would be so much more peaceful if men weren't running everything" myth on its' head).

6. Orbiter -- I liked this one quite a lot as well, though it was too short. I _really_ like Warren Ellis' writing style.

7. Midnight Nation -- at first I wasn't sure, but as the story developed, it enveloped me and drew me in. I was somewhat turned off towards the end when the religious allegory started coming through, but once I got past that (thankfully, there wasn't much of it), I found that I generally enjoyed the story.

8. Ocean -- the story on this seemed kind of fragmented and jumpy, which is a bit of a shame because the premise (of what lies in the oceans of Europa beneath the ice) has so much potential.

9. Ex Machina -- who knew a graphic novel about a super-hero (who wasn't particularly good at it) who determines that he could better serve society as a politician could be so cool? I didn't expect to enjoy this, but enjoy it I have.

So, I guess that what I can take away from this is that the Warren Ellis and Brian K. Vaughan styles realy resomate with me, while some of the others don't so much. I recently picked up "Pride of Baghdad", and look forward to reading it. Can anyone recommend more material along the lines of Ellis / Vaughan / non-capes-and-tights / more human?

Needing Something New to Read

I've been staying with a friend in Toronto for the last week who has been introducing me to some amazing graphic novels and comics while I've been here. this has lead me to believe there is much much more out there left to explore. What do you read? What are your all-time favorites? I want recommendations so that when I go back home to Milwaukee, I can seek out new experiences in the graphic novel and comic book worlds.

... stuff similar to Global Frequency?

Hello, all ...

I'm a big Sandman fan of course, but other than that, i'm not much into graphic novels -- many of the ones i've seen are too "superhero" for me; I tend to prefer stories that are more based on real people, with real human fallibilities, issues and limitations, who somehow do amazing things e.g. people who don't consider themselves "super" so much. A dash of the paranormal, etc. is fine here and there, but I like it more in terms of a spice than a main course.

I recently discovered Global Frequency, and I _love_ this stuff -- this is my kind of thing. It's quite a shame that there were only 12 issues produced, though. I'd be very interested in recommendations along this vein. A science-fiction bent is fine (though not necessary), though I prefer my sci-fi to be set more-or-less in the present day. If anyone has some ideas for me, i'm open to hearing them.

If you haven't yet, I strongly suggest you pick up a copy of Brian K. Vaughan's Pride of Baghdad. It's a beautiful, sad book (I cried) and is a wonderful graphic novel that you could even thrust upon non-GN folks.

Maus I & Maus II

Definately had a change of heart. I am at the begining of my teaching career and am hoping to be able to teach these books soon. I think they are beautiful and a great way to grab some of the 'reluctant readers' who are afraid of books with lots of words and no pictures.

A French story that doesn't suck...

I just finished reading “Tokyo est mon jardin”. Art by Frédérique Boilet. It’s a excellent book and a technical feat. I had seen some of his work in “Japan: as viewed by 17 creators” and was really impressed. “Tokyo est mon jardin”is packed with beautiful panels. He delights in describing fine details. For instance, he captures the droopiness of a less than fresh t-shirt. Depictions of kanji calligraphy exhibition are awesome, handled with tender care; as is his depiction of the soft curves of a nude female body. His panels are jammed with interesting messes without being fussy and his textures and blocky compositions are really alive. His panels have the freshness of being hand-drawn. I kept asking myself how he pulled off an endless stream of sweet effects. Boilet blocks in midtones like a painter. Each new page has startling new effects. I can only dream of drawing like him.

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Superheroes

Deepak Chopra and Grant Morrison explore the social subconscious.

Thursday at the San Diego Comic-Con brought an intriguing collaboration. Grant Morrison and Deepak Chopra, having met for the first time the previous night, had a discussion about the role superheroes play in the social fabric.

A superhero is "symbolic expression of the social subconscious," according to Chopra. "The superhero is a mythological being" who exists "beyond outerspace and innerspace, creating a new idea of being."

Even deconstructing superheroes, a '90s movement fronted by the likes of Morrison, "comes from fear," according to the comics writer. "People are scared to be hopeful." And though writers and society pummeled Superman, he persevered and the core character survived for the new era of comics just now emerging.

Chopra suggested that the seven spiritual laws could mirror the seven chakras. "A Chakra is a junction point between consciousness and reality," Chopra explained before leading the audience through all seven.

"First chakra - Stability. Infinite centered awareness and dynamism.
Second chakra - Transformation. An absolute allegiance to transformation. Willingness not to have a permanent identity
Third - Power. Not in the sense of muscle, but in intention.
Fourth -- Love and compassion. Nothing better it is integrated with the rest of the Chakras.
Fifth - Creativity. Always creative solutions.
Sixth - Intuition.
Seventh - Transcendence."

The seven chakras can also be linked to the idea of seven gods, a theme that clearly parallels the seven main characters of the JLA.

"Look at the JLA," Morrison said. "They all map on the chakras. Batman is a human being of ultimate power [and intention.] Flash is communication. Superman is about giving selflessly He represents the sun. He is that thing that loves us unconditionally."

He added later that "Batman is like Christ harrowing Hell, because only he can withstand it. He endures everything for us. Batman is a character who was almost brought to the brink of his destruction," but who persevered. Batman is our shadow and "we have to look at the shadow and integrate the shadow [into our consciousness]."

And "yeah," Morrison admitted, Seven soldiers is an allegory to seven gods. "Mr. Miracle is the transcendent character," the seventh Chakra.

Superheroes are our new mythology. They are not so different from the Greek Gods, who were not as deeply seeded in religion as some may think. But what is mythology on a deeper level?

As Deepak Chopra asserts, a mythology "must address the collective consciousness in a certain archetypal way. It must offer an idealist vision to aspire [towards]." He added that, "a good story should never end and good guys should never win."

"There are six plots that people retell," Morrison said. "These stories are told again and again."

Myth is related to the word mother. As Chopra called it, "the womb of creation." Myth is not just hokey stories that explain why the sun rises and falls. That's a very simplistic view. To put it poetically, myths are where "we express our deepest longing and aspirations of collective being." Myth is a social experience beyond genetic codes or organized religions.

"The human story is about a quest, falling down, but getting up again," Chopra said. "Death and rebirth. It's about redeeming yourself and then redeeming others."

Our existence is still young in the eyes of the universe. "In many ways," Chopra said, "we are reaching puberty. There's a lot of curiosity, mistakes, risk-taking. But it is an exciting time." One full of possibilities, though there are certain to be some growing pains.

Chopra proposed that our current destructive nature may not mean the end of human existence. In fact, it could be part of the natural order of evolution. "The are no fossil records of the evolutionary transition between lizard and bird." It happened, but we have no true proof, just as we cannot find the missing link between ape and man. Chopra suggested that it is possible a species can experience a "creative quantum leap."

Think of a caterpillar. "A caterpillar consumes more than it needs to eat until it reaches a point where its body begins to decay and die. Imaginal cells cluster. The send communications to each other. The caterpillar is imagining a new entity. [The imaginal cells] use the dying carcass of the caterpillar to feed. A dormant gene awakens and the dying caterpillar becomes a butterfly, a completely new creature."

Now consider that "cloning, tinkering with the intelligence of the universe," are "ideas that existed in ancient mythologies." Yesterday's mythologies are today's science.

So think of our modern myths. Think of the superhero. "Look at destruction of environment," Morrison said. Look at what has become of our world and our society. "We are the imaginal cells."

Chopra put it plainly. "Superheroes may be a prelude to an actual leap in our evolution," as our social conscious has the knowledge of the possibility of flight and other incredible, superhuman feats.

Que ce soit dit d'emblée: malgré le titre du nouveau livre d'Enki Bilal, Rendez-vous à Paris, et le dessin de couverture qui les réunit, les trois orphelins nés à Sarajevo en pleine guerre civile, dont on suit les destins chaotiques et allégoriques dans les années 20 du XXIe siècle, ne se retrouvent pas encore.

La trilogie du Sommeil du monstre est devenue tétralogie. Et il faudra attendre un an (ce qui est rapide à l'aune des volumes précédents) pour les questions encore sans réponse, comme la nature réelle d'Optus Warhole, incarnation du mal absolu et des forces obscurantistes, créateur de l'art brutal et meurtrier, frère de Ben Laden en mises en scène mondialisées de l'horreur. Et quelle est son origine, peut-être liée aux placodermes et autres poissons fossiles de la nuit des temps qui envahissent les cases de Bilal? La mémoire, individuelle et collective, pivot central de cette œuvre, remonte-t-elle plus loin encore que les étranges restes géants antédiluviens qui irritent tant les intégristes religieux en remettant en cause la création divine?

C'est à un retour à Sarajevo et à Belgrade, où le dessinateur est né et d'où est partie l'histoire, que cet épisode plus posé, plus intimiste, est consacré. «S'il n'y avait pas eu la guerre en Yougoslavie, je n'aurais sans doute pas abordé ce sujet, pense Bilal. Cette idée d'ordre obscurantiste voulant régner sur la planète m'est venue avec Sarajevo, avec l'aspect religieux de ce conflit, dont on n'a pas tant parlé mais qui s'est manifesté par la suite avec force, avec le 11 septembre et le regain du fondamentalisme, notamment islamiste.»

A la litanie des camps de détention serbes, croates et bosniaques évoqués dans un épisode précédent se superpose ici celle des clubs de football de villes meurtries, Sarajevo, Mostar, Vukovar, Srebrenica: «La folie a été annoncée dans ces stades de l'ex-Yougoslavie par des clubs qui s'affrontaient au-delà du sport et des supporters qui annonçaient la violence à venir...»

Donc en 2027, le foot est organisé sur la base d'équipes religieuses. Les deux opiums du peuple réunis, en quelque sorte. «Le Championnat d'Europe Inter Religieux est dominé par de puissantes équipes fondamentalistes et l'homme d'affaires qui tente de monter une équipe athée n'y parvient pas, essentiellement par manque de joueurs athées.»

Bilal nous invite à suivre un récit complexe et puissant, qu'il vaut la peine de reprendre depuis le début pour suivre les pistes de réflexion enchevêtrées sur la mémoire, l'art, le pouvoir, la violence, la manipulation ou l'intégrisme, et pour distinguer les personnages de leurs répliques bioniques.

«J'ai choisi d'adopter un déroulement souple et aéré, de deux ou trois cases par page, explique l'auteur, pour coller aux personnages de façon moins dense et dramatique que dans le premier épisode, où j'ai concentré ce qu'il fallait dire sur la violence et la folie du monde. D'où la nécessité d'augmenter la pagination.»

Cela donne des pages somptueuses, agencées comme depuis le début de la tétralogie avec des cases indépendantes, réalisées comme des tableaux, à la peinture acrylique et au pastel, directement à partir des crayonnés, sans passer par le stade de l'encrage. C'est à la fin du processus seulement que les cases sont définitivement assemblées et accompagnées des dialogues et récitatifs, permettant plus de souplesse dans le montage.

Mais Bilal a déjà envie de passer à autre chose et, en parallèle avec la conclusion de cette série, il réfléchit à un titre isolé (un «one shot») en rupture sur le plan graphique et dans la manière de traiter un sujet: «Je commence à percevoir ce qu'il pourra être.»

Il se fera chez Casterman (groupe Flammarion), ce qui était convenu avant même qu'il passe chez cet éditeur avec tout son catalogue. Car, comme pour un footballeur, les Humanoïdes Associés et son patron genevois Fabrice Giger lui ont proposé un «transfert» chez un autre éditeur, pour assainir leur situation financière au moment d'un changement d'actionnariat. On parle d'un transfert de 3 millions d'euros. «C'est mon destin: j'avais été contacté par un recruteur du club de foot «Etoile rouge» quand j'étais gamin, mais je suis parti, et le transfert, je l'ai vécu bien plus tard et dans un autre domaine!»

I guess you could call it my personal mission to assist everyone with talent and a drive to get seen out there, and to get their works noticed. I know, I know, I'm a nutball, but that's fine---so long as some of you make it, like I'm making it. I'm nothing special guys, but there are doors out there that can open to you if you look in the right place.

So, I would like to share a post, from my website with you, that just may be a door of opportunity for anyone in the right category, and with a set of 'gonads' (sorry ladies---but that includes you too!) to go after it.

I am not a comic book artist and outside of "girly" comics as a kid I never read comics or had any interest until I discovered Jaime's WANTED: HERO series. He opened my eyes to the possibilities of comics. Now I am on a new mission. (So blame it on him LOL)

My passion and work is with mental health professionals. In a nutshell, I think they are terrible at communicating their knowledge and services to health seekers. For crying out loud, most of them don’t even have a website or blog! Then they package their knowledge in a 300-page book filled with psychobabble that no one is going to read.

One of my many soapboxes is that the 30 and under clients, who will soon be the majority of their market, communicates in ways that most 40-65 year old therapists do not understand. Mainly, the Internet, websites, multimedia, IM, comics, graphic novels and online games. So we have a situation where most therapists cannot make a living and most health seekers cannot find the
help they need.

Jaime inspired me to think about the possibility of bridging this gap through online comics. I spent many hours exploring the digital comic sites. Frankly, I was very disappointed in most of what I saw. IMO, the world does not need another 100 comics about the daily life and angst of 20 something college students, copies of Manga and Anime comics, or more super-heroes. I looked at over 1,000 comics to find a few that I thought were ABOUT something for [Comics From The Heart http://www.psychjourney.com/comicsfromtheheart.htm on Psychjourney.

I believe there is a huge market for therapists who want to reach a new audience, get new clients and make passive income through online comics and graphic novels. I currently have in the planning an online graphic novel on sexuality issues and another on overcoming male sexual & physcal abuse as a child. I am concentrating on male issues on the first two comics since I believe that men are the biggest consumer of comics and that in the therapy field men’s issues have been overlooked.

I am looking for comic artists who are interested in discussing a collaboration to partner with me and a liscenced mental health professional to create comics or graphic novels about dealing with mental disorders, and other psychological issues. The comics will be sold online and include product placement for books and other services.

Hey all. I just found this tribe and have been poking about, checking out existing threads. I'm curious if there are some published authors & artists here that can offer some insight into the process of getting published. Taking a great story with great art and making it work. Are there any ppl here who launched their own successful publishing efforts? For their own stories and others as well? What are the pitfalls? Is it true there is no money and that its all for the art? Are there typical plots that seem to do better than others? Can you come up with something unique and still get an audience? How can you measure this?

I have installed a new section of my comic book website, which I am trying to do on a regular basis, to promote more interest in the comic. I used a piece of software that allows for an online encyclopedia, which I turned into a 'Journal' kept by one of the main characters.

I will put new entries in on a regular basis, which will keep it growing---but I wanted to get your feedback and possible ideas for this feature. Take a look at it, read some entries, and let me know if it's interesting to you. Does it make you want to read the comic book? Does it make you curious at all? If you HAVE read the comic already (which many of you have), do you like this new feature?

Immortal

Bilal's "Carnival of the Immortals" and "The Woman Trap" have been made into a movie, with Bilal directing. It's one of those 99% CGI jobs, with even most of the characters CGI. In fact, I only counted 3 human actors.

I quite liked the result, although I missed Dictator White-Cabbage's make-up job. Some of the eerier scenes are in here perfectly, such as Horus fashioning a prosthetic leg for Nikopol out of a piece of rail, all in a semi-abandoned subway station.

The guy playing Nikopol, Somebody Kretschmann, didn't impress me. The girl playing Jill Bioskop is VERY pretty and a fair actress. And hey look, there's Charlotte Rampling! (phoning in her performance, unfortunately)

You can find it for nottalottacash on eBay. Recommended.

Q: Can a Graphic Novel be a series and not actually be complete in a single issue....like a chapter in an incredibly long story?

I have been pondering this for some time and didn't join this tribe because I didn't think I could answer it myself. My name is Jaime Buckley and I create comic books for a living (www.wantedhero.com). I'm a one man show and have had plans to take my bi-monthly comic and create a novel at the end of the year.

It will be a collection of issues 1-5 that I sell for $1 as digital downloads from the site, but also a super sized #6, only available in the hard copy format of the Novel.

This is a huge storyline and I plan on doing this every year if it goes well with the first Novel...but it's not a completely 'self-contained' storyline. If you bought the second Novel, you will need the first to fully comprehend the story.

This beingt he case---I was wondering what the definitions of a Graphic Novel were. I could use a new point of view.

help with StoryBoards

I would like to recruit an illustrator to draw my storyboards (I've got most of it on paper and in my head, but I can't draw worth a damn).
The end result will be a film pitch (or two or three) that I can bombard producers/sympathizers with. In the long run you'd have credit for illustrating of course and maybe it would even be fun to try it as a graphic novel. I'd love that! Hope to hear from some of you soon,

Finding an agent/publisher

The graphic novel is going very well. We have some final pages done, much of the script written and story boarded. But before I send it out...

--Do you know of any agents/publishers that I should consider? I definitely want to keep the rights to the story and characters.

--Is there a good resource (like the Writer's Digest) for graphic novels?

--Should we wait until book 1 of the series is finished before sending it out, or is it okay to send out a few finished pages, a storyboard, and a final script?

Two library gems

I was looking for other things but found myself looking that meager graphic novel section at the library yesterday. I checked out two things

1) Sshhhh! by Jason (Fantagraphics)

Sshhhh was sublime. No words, just 6 black & white square panels to a page. 10 chapters. The first chapter is what grabbed me in the library and I think its my favorite. I sort of identify right now with the main character and his existential crisis. The book leads through various episodes in his life. Some are surreal and some are all too real.

2) Shutterbug Follies by Jason Little (doubleday)

Quite the suspense story. The colors are really striking in this one. It's bright and kind of happy but the subject matter isn't most of the time. It's a pretty macabre story involving a young girl who works in a photomat processing film. She begins investigating one of her customers who regularly has her develop crime scene photos. It was a real page-turner right up to the end. Unfortunately it felt like the writer couldn't find something suitably interesting to follow the climax and so it just sort of ends. A fun read nonetheless.

OPi8.com, if you haven't heard of it, is a promotion site for artists offering exclusive web comics, stories, artist interviews, reviews, editorial columns, and soon to be music and sound sculptures. If it's dark, depraved, disturbing, viceral, violent, or raunchy it's place is on this site.

Early in 2003 OPi8.com experienced a serious dry spell that is only recently being lifted. The site is in the midst of an overhaul, but new comics, art, and/or articles are put up every week.

Jump over there, take a look. There's bound to be something there you like. You might want to see your own work up there. Hell, you might already have something on there.

Thanks to all who continue to post critiques of our current reading lists.

Okay, so here's a couple of questions for y'all:

Do you generally seek out a more painterly style of artwork or a more traditional graphic style? And do you prefer color or black and white? Or do you simply throw away your art preferences file in favor of a truly gripping plotline? I'm curious.

Ok, Ok. I didn't know it would happen so fast, but I knew it would come. A bande dessinee tribe!!

I just found you guys. You were well hidden. Anyway, I just moved from Switzerland where I had to leave my 600-700 pieces collection and my brain is craving for a good graphic novel. (I think the name "graphic novel" is perfect by the way. Damn, it made me feel strange to tell my friends I liked to read comics...).

Well, my question is simple. Where is the best Graphic Novel Shop in San Francisco or the Bay Area? I need my fix! Thx for the help!

Where to go after Sandman?

I loved Sandman so much. It is by far my favorite comic story ever. I'm still trying to find something new that I enjoy as much. **I know that it was what it was and there isn't anything like it** but I'd love to know what other people recommend who also enjoyed it in the same way.

sandman characters

the sandman moment topic made me think about Robert 'Hob' Gadling... dreams friend who is granted immortality.

i think one of Gaiman's most amazing talents is his ability to create characters that are so real and rich. many times i felt compelled to know more about a character in sandman.

so, Hob was one of those for me. i loved watching him change over the years and i loved his interraction with dream.

are there any characters other than the endless who really struck a chord with you?

The San Francisco-stationed special effects company known as The Orphanage will help produce and create all the visual effects for a movie version of STRAY TOASTERS, a science fiction graphic novel by Bill Sienkiewicz. TOASTERS was first published as a four volume comic book series in 1989 and was a crime noir potboiler about a criminal psychologist investigating a series of murders of young boys. His investigation leads him to another series of murders involving women whose bodies have been mutilated into bizarre science project-like shells. And yes, there is a connection between the two crimes...but is the killer human?

The screenplay for the movie has already been written by Sienkiewicz and Jeff Renfroe and Marteinn Thorsson. Renfroe and Thorsson had a film in last year's Sundance Film Festival titled ONE POINT O.

what's that title

looking for a g.n. that a friend loaned me long ago. it was extremely colorful and had some of the most wicked variations of angles from extreme up and down shots, to the best close ups and long shots.

some basics of the story, a guy and a girl in nyc (i think) they were in love but problems arose that drove them apart. i remember lots of rain and a fight at the end where the main character almost lost his life, desperately clinging to a ledge either on a boat or high up on a building. his girl ended up stabbing the antagonist at the very end and saving her beau. not a lot of dialogue, but the flow of the story was carried by the terrific visuals.

i am desperate to replace this book, and hope someone out there knows the title i am looking for.

Supreme Power by J. Michael Straczynski - Excellent! Sort of a revisioning of JLA.

Reload/Mek by Warren Ellis - Eh. Kinda disappointing. Reminds me of older pulp sci-fi short stories. Interesting ideas that are crammed into very short spaces that sometimes work and sometimes don't.

New X-Men: Planet X - Grant Morrison - The only writer that could bring me back to Xavier's School for the Gifted. Phil Jimenez art is a perfect match for this dark end of Morrison's run on X-men. Magneto is surrounded by a bunch of MTV generation mutants. Tragedy & hillarity ensue.

So what new stuff is everyone else reading these days?
