Okay so I read these books this summer with a preconception that I would like Graphic Novels...
Definately had a change of heart. I am at the begining of my teaching career and am hoping to be able to teach these books soon. I think they are beautiful and a great way to grab some of the 'reluctant readers' who are afraid of books with lots of words and no pictures.
What should I read next?

Re: Maus I & Maus II
Mon, December 12, 2005 - 4:59 PMHmm...Black Hole by Charles Burns has recently been collected. It deals with teen-angst in a beautifully creepy way.
Check it out -- www.randomhouse.com/pantheon...hole.html
My personal heroes, the Hernandez brothers have each recently put out beautiful collections of their Love and Rockets series. Check out these great Amazon previews for Locas(Xaime)
www.amazon.com/gp/product...908-3290566
and Palomar(Gilbert)
www.amazon.com/gp/product...908-3290566
Or you can read both brothers togethor with the orignial, smaller collections from Fantagraphic-- www.fantagraphics.com/artist/...ros.html
Love&Rockets are probably my favorite comics of all time. Give it a shot! -

Re: Maus I & Maus II
Mon, December 12, 2005 - 6:41 PMYou know something, that's really true about the X-Men. My best friend from my hometown have talked about that many times.
But only the Claremont or Morrison ones, the rest are SHITE! -

Sat, January 7, 2006 - 10:18 AMJust to throw my two cents in the byrne/Claremont X-men run is much better than just the Claremont stuff. Though Claremont's stuff is still really good.

Thu, January 5, 2006 - 2:23 AMIf you're looking for something to use in a classroom to teach tolerance and understanding of other cultures, try Perseopolis by Marjane Satrapi. It's the story of the author's childhood during the Iranian revolution. -

Re: Maus I & Maus II
Mon, June 12, 2006 - 12:30 AMif you liked Maus, check out Persepolis, I am not sure if I spelled that correctly. Anyway, its by Marjane Satrapi, also not sure if I spelled that correctly. Bleh. Its a wonderful story about a girl from Iran. Very good. Autobiographical.
Obvious selections: Alan Moore's books like The Watchmen or V For Vendetta From Hell. Neil Gaiman's books with Dave Mckean like Violent Cases, Mr. Punch, and Black Orchid, or just neil gaiman books in general like The Sandman series or 1602(though you seem to already emphasis that you dont like traditional comics so 1602 may not work).
Anyway, persepolis. yes. I even spelled it right. I checked. www.amazon.com/gp/product...042-3637700 buy book 2 also. Good stuff. -

Re: Maus I & Maus II
Sun, November 19, 2006 - 12:16 AM"Epileptic" by David B. would be a great novel that teenagers might identify to. The story of a epileptic kid and how his brother helps him fight his difference.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epil...hic_novel)
NB: I agree with Robert. Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi) would be a great book to teach in class too. Also, It's interesting to note that David B. was Marjane's mentor.
